Though one of my knitting goals is to finish some long-time UFOs, and I'm working on my purple sweater again, I started a new project too:
The time snuck up on me, but my friend and fellow shelter volunteer's new grandbaby is due soon! Can I finish this in time for her to take it to the shower the weekend after next??
Chris and I finished a UFO of a non-knitting kind, too: painting our guest room. We bought the paint a day or two before the Great Flood of Spring 2010, and didn't finish the basement repairs from that disaster until last fall. Finally we can check this one off of the list.
It's been cloudy most days, and hard to take accurate photos, but this gives you some idea of the difference between the blues. We went from a medium "boys' room blue" to a lighter blue called Cool Sky, nothing too dramatic. The new blue looks white, above, but you can see it better in the photo below.
As much as I like the new color, working in a blue room this time of year made me feel more cold than I usually am. So I know now that blue is definitely out for our cave of a dining room, which is the next home project. I so want the fun of a dramatic makeover, but keep coming back to a lighter tan color than what is there already. It will look warm and sunny and bright which is what that room needs. Maybe some new curtains and a change in furniture arrangement will help update things? If only I could hire a Domino magazine editor!
Oh how I miss Domino! There is something to be said about having neutral walls that let you really accessorize with furniture.
I think that the guest room looks very inviting.

At first I thought the darker blue was the colour you were painting, the new blue does look white!! But in the second photo I can see the colour properly and it is very nice!!

That was a good way to figure out a color you don't want for your dining room!

You absolutely can finish that hat in time for the shower - and I can't wait to see it!! Love the new blue in the guest room. When the hot summer weather hits, you'll be glad to escape to the cool surrounding. :)

Such a cute hat! I'm sure you can finish it for the shower - it will be perfect.

I'm glad you're able to get the painting done and are happy with the results -- the new color looks really good!

I hope the hat is coming along well! That's great you got another painting project done and have a better idea of what you want to do with the dining room too!

I love that hat pattern! I meant to make one for my little girl this year, but her hat from last year still fits, so... Maybe I should make one for myself. : )

Cute hat! I've been wanting to knit something for a co-worker who recently had a baby and that hat might be just the thing!
For a tan for your dining room, check out the paint color Wild Porcini (250-E3) from Behr Paints. We've used it in our living room and in my fiber room. It's light, with enough orange in it to make it warm, but not orange-y.
