Though I'm not a big fan of autumn generally, I love to look at The September Issues of fashion magazines (Did you see the Vogue documentary by the same name, with Anna Wintour?).
As a knitter, there were two pages that stood out to me. The first was in People Style Watch:
The second is from InStyle:
Chunky Knits. I'm not sure I like these particular styles, other than the shawl-collared cardigans, but they do inspire me to knit after my late summer break. The camel ones don't do anything for my coloring, but I kind of like the gray sweaters.
I've decided to go ahead and keep working on my pink skirt, because if I put it away, I might forget where I left off. Also -- it's straight stockinette at this point, so perfect for mindless knitting, car and otherwise. But maybe after I finish that, I'll start a fall sweater. In the meantime, to feed my ballet sweater obsession, I found this, in ivory mohair. Yum.
Since I don't sew, I can't show you any photos of sewing WIPs. But I can show you a new dress I bought a few weeks ago. It will look great with tights and a cardigan when it's too cold to have bare limbs!
It thrills me to have some new things already completed and ready to wear. Have you purchased any new clothes for fall, sweaters or otherwise? What are you still looking for? Are there any must-have new yarns you can't wait to knit up?
Next up: I finished reading My Year of Meats...
Love the ballet cardigan and the dress, it's lovely and very versatile. I am very sure chunky knits don't suit me, but I don't mind the style of the longer leaner cardigans.I am feeling the last urges of Winter knitting, fleetingly!!

Most of the chunky knits don't suit me and I keep thinking they must be very heavy unless very special light yarn is used! I'm glad you've found some new things you are excited about wearing. I enjoyed The September Issue. I thought Grace Coddington was particularly interesting and the dynamic between her and Anna.

That dress is great! I like sweater season, and I've enjoyed getting some of mine out again. I wouldn't mind, though, if it stayed summer so I didn't have to :)

I don't care much for chunky knits. For one thing, they are just way too warm for me. I actually spend a lot less on fall/winter clothing than I do on spring/summer stuff. The fall colors are always a little too dark and there isn't that much color variety, whereas spring clothing always has such a fresh look. Boots are also too warm for me, so I avoid them, and that saves me a ton of bucks!

Lovely ballet sweater and dress! I usually love fall, partly for the cooler weather, mostly for the summer people leaving the lake.

I love fall sweaters! Too bad I'm such a slow knitter...

I love the dress! I can sometimes do chunky knits if the yarn is lofty and/or it's a thinner yarn knit at a more open, larger gauge.
I am liking the shawl collar trend in both sweaters and jackets.

I am not a person who can really wear "chunky" knits. Somehow, it always seems hard to tell where the knit ends and I begin. Then we both look chunky...
I do love that dress, though! Fall is such a great season for that kind of thing. Warm, but cool enough to show off the sweaters over dresses. Nice!

I agree with you about Camel--disaster! There are some beautiful charcoal knits out there, especially the wraps designed by Alexander Wang in his fall runway show. To me, the only purpose of a chunky knit is to balance out body proportions. For example, I know a lot of pear-shaped women that look stunning in a bolero knitted in bulky yarn, because it balances the top half with the bottom. I guess, too, if you are thin as a rail you can belt a chunky knit and get away with it. Otherwise, why add the appearance of 10 extra pounds to your figure? Some of these bulky Rowan knits with massive cables just astound me. Who can wear them but the tall size 4s in the knitting community?
Good luck on your bike ride!!!
