News video of neighborhood not too far from here:
We are among the blessed. We were able to empty out our basement of Chris' model railroad stuff on Monday night before we lost the battle with the wet vac. The carpets are soaked, with a couple of inches of standing water. It was a finished basement; the previous owners had made two bedrooms for relatives down there that Chris used for hobby rooms. The carpeting is likely ruined and will have to be removed, but hopefully the walls aren't too damaged.
I am trying not to be discouraged, but it is so hard. We were planning to paint the guest room this weekend, and I wanted to start cleaning out the back garden and plant seeds in the seed trays. Instead, there are boxes and piles of stuff all over the house that needs to be "re-homed", and the backyard is a swampy sponge of mud.
Thankfully, the sun is coming out today, and the weather for the weekend is predicted to be unusually beautiful: sunny and near 70F. We hope to get in a bike ride sometime during the cleanup. Easter is the celebration of new life and new beginnings, and it couldn't come at a better time.
Sorry to hear about the flooding damage :( I know, it can be frustrating when you feel like you've taken one step forward only to have to take two steps back.

Oh no! I hope the clean-up effort goes OK, and that you really do get to do something fun this weekend. Hurray for 70s and sunshine! That's the case here in Chicago today.

UGH. Sorry to hear there's been damage - hopefully not too bad...

Oh no! Glad it isn't worse, and you are all safe and at home :)

Sorry to hear about your flooding. Bleach is your friend in this case. Ask me how I know. Oh, and any paperwork, if you need it quickly, a food dehydrater, otherwise, freeze drying works well.

Oh no! I hope the damage isn't too bad. I'm guessing there isn't a free sump pump within a few hundred miles of your house. I'm glad that you had the time to save the valuables.

I am so sorry that you had flooding in your basement. It is such a pain.

How discouraging. I wondered how you were doing, and hope you can salvage most everything. Come on, warm sunny weather!

Oh, what an unfortunate thing to suffer in a new house! I'm glad you were able to get Chris's things out in time and I hope the damage isn't too great. Might be worth just having throw rugs down there in the future. :( Wishing you guys a very beautiful weekend indeed!

I'm sorry to hear you had so much water, but glad you were able to get Chris' stuff out before it was all lost. I've had about enough of the rain; how about you?

Thankfully, you are safe and were able to clear out the things that might have been damaged worse.
It isn't any fun to think about fixing up the basement again. This weather has been really crazy.
Hang in there - you are in my thoughts...

I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your basement, but am glad to hear you are otherwise relatively unscathed.

I'm glad things weren't as bad as they could be -- but YUCK! I'm sorry for your trouble. Hang in there -- I hope you do get some time this weekend to celebrate Easter & the coming of spring (and biking weather).

I'm so sorry to hear that you were affected. I hope the damage isn't too terribly hard to fix.

Oh, this sucks, such a bad thing to happen after just a short amount of time spent in the new home. It's really bad when you finally settle, but still have lots of work to do, and something like this happens and only adds up to it. Anyway, I hope the next year in your home will be better.

So sorry about all the flooding! It's frustrating not to be able to get other projects done because of it and to have your carpets ruined. I'm glad things weren't worse, but still, you had a rough week.
