Saturday was my birthday, and, as is tradition, I was greeted with my least favorite present:
It wasn't as bad as forecast (maybe two inches, compared to 5ish inches) but it made getting together with friends and family difficult as the forecast kept changing, and we didn't want anyone risking life and limb on icy roads. I had visions of spending my birthday a la Samantha and Jake in Sixteen Candles, with Chris and I hunched over a cupcake with a candle on it, sitting in the dark by ourselves with the power out. Thankfully that didn't happen! Our neighbors to the north and west were not as lucky, with several feet of heavy, wet snow by Sunday morning.
Robin treated me to a colorful spring bouquet, a lovely surprise that arrived Saturday afternoon, and helped brighten up the weather. I love flowers, especially this time of year. Thank you so much!!!
Here is Rainy, waiting for our company:
One of many cute cat birthday cards!
My friends and loved ones were very kind to me; I was given two pretty bracelets, wind chimes (rumor has it we might be able to open the windows for fresh air again in a few months, but I don't dare believe it), a new gazing ball for my garden (the wind destroyed my previous one about a month ago), a spa gift certificate, and a pink sapphire ring from Chris (this was a big birthday). But I know what you really want to see are the new books:
The top book is a poetry chapbook called That's the Way the Music Sounds, written by a friend of my friend Dorothy. Then we have Keats, whom I adore after watching Bright Star, a book for writers from the Glimmer Train journal, a Carola Dunn Daisy Dalrymple mystery, The Black Ship, and books by the Grammar Girl.
The Cabinet of Shame is beyond hope now. None of the new books will fit there.
We had a fun night together and I am so grateful to have spent it with those close to me. Chris and I are still working on the birthday cake leftovers! But the best part of my birthday is that it means spring, and daylight savings time, are now imminent. Yay!
Thank you so much for your stories of aspirin allergies in response to my previous post. It made me feel better knowing other people have had bad or strange reactions to it. With all the wet weather we've had last week, I was one step ahead of another headache, but did fine with the ibuprofen. Proof that you should go with what you know!
Next post I promise photos of the newly painted kitchen, and a knitting update. I hope you are warm and dry and doing lots of knitting and reading!
Happy belated birthday to YOU!!!! I'm glad that you were able to celebrate, even with iffy weather. :)

Oh, Happy Birthday, my friend! It sounds like you have a lovely time, despite the weather.
PS - I loved Bright Star too! It was so lovely.

Looks like you had a great birthday (except for the snow of course). I had to stop and stare at your tulips for a while. *sigh* We planted about 100 bulbs last fall so I'm looking forward to tulip time.
I love the green you picked for your kitchen.

In spite of the weather, it really does sound like a wonderful birthday. For what it's worth, the temps in my corner of the northeast are rather warm. We almost hit fifty today! I'd say you are in for some Wind Chime Weather very soon!

So, you got snow for your birthday, too. I'm really sorry. It wasn't what I wanted for my birthday, either.
Happy day anyhow.

Happy Birthday! It sounds like it was a good birthday, in spite of the weather. Ah tulips, it seems like forever since I've seen tulips.

Happy Birthday!!! So glad there wasn't too much snow and it didn't put an end to your party plans. :)
