Chris and I went to Cape Cod on Saturday. Though it was bitterly cold, there wasn't the snow they had last year that made everything look like winter wonderland. But it's still pretty -- where else do you see a lighthouse with a giant wreath and bow, or evergreen decorations with seashells on them?! It's my kind of winter! :)
One of my favorite shops in Chatham is Violet's. It's a girly boutique with soft sweaters and party dresses, vintage style jewelry, and basketfuls of wraps, scarves, wool hats and mittens. When we went on Halloween, I saw this sparkly wrap that I just fell in love with, and Saturday, it was on sale. The colors remind me of ocean water, all those blues and greens that change depending on how the light reflects. It's now hanging on my closet door so I can admire it until I wear it Christmas Eve.
On the way to and from Cape Cod, there is a special landmark in Providence we always look for: The Big Blue Bug. (Click "photos" then "next" on this site, to see a close-up!) At different times of the year, he has different costumes. For Christmas, our giant cockroach friend is turned into Rudolph. Did you ever think a cockroach could be so adorable?!
I finished a second ornament, which is going to a pen friend. Vanessa, from the Plymouth Yarn blog, asked to use my ornament photos from last year for a post. Very flattering! They are really easy to make and perfect little gifts. Now to decide what color combination of beads and yarn to do next! I'm still putting off ripping back on Mr. Greenjeans.
Last, but most important, a big thank you to blog friend Chris, who sent me these as a contest prize. I knew her kitty Mayhem was the softest! I am definitely in the mood for a Hamish MacBeth book, and Death of a Snob takes place at Christmastime. Can't wait to dive in to this one -- thanks so much Chris, and congratulations again to May!!
I was so excited when I saw you'd won Chris' contest. Congratulations on such perfect prizes!
Will the cats not jump up after your scarf? The cat we had growing up used to love to tear gauzy things, so I live in fear of my current group getting into my scarves.
And I miss the Blue Bug! He was always my Providence landmark, while a car showroom filled with fancy models was my brother's on trips to the Cape.

What a fabulous prize! I've been reading like a fiend lately and can barely keep up with new books. Thank heavens for the school library!
Love the wrap and the ornament! They sort of look like they go together...

How fun to win a contest and get some new books! And a Christmas one -- that's great. I hope you enjoy them. Your new ornament looks great.

The ethereal sea green wrap was meant to be yours! The beaded ornament is lovely too.
Btw, the Big Blue Bug is actually supposed to be a termite. Marginally better than a cockroach, perhaps.
