I hadn't intended to take a blog break, but sometimes life happens. I apologize for not answering many comments or visiting blogs lately.
While I haven't made any job search progress, we've finally started the long overdue hallway painting project. I'm hoping to finish this weekend, and will share some before and after photos soon. There are a ton of doors and lots of trimwork! I caught a bad head cold before Easter, which slowed us down, but thankfully it seems to be gone.
In the health news dept, my dad's cancer has been acting up again. After a bunch of tests, he's going for a new, stronger treatment for the next six months. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Miss Rainy has had some good news, however. She is now a proud member of our home's IBD club, walking in the pawsteps of her predecessor Charlie. While IBD is a serious disease, and the specialist warned me hers will be tough to treat, I am so grateful she does not have intestinal lymphoma like Charlie that I laughed for joy when we received the news! She's now on prednisone and seems to be feeling better overall.
I'm still working on Daphne, and making good progress, though I think that the cotton yarn will not be dressy enough for the evening wedding we're attending in May. I'm also working on a nonknitting project as a gift for said wedding, though I can't share photos yet in case the recipient reads this blog.
Book hoarding continues. Several friends had recommended Georgette Heyer to me, and I found a copy of one of her newly republished mysteries, Why Shoot a Butler?, at our local bookstore. I love the 1930s English Country House setting, though so far there has not been a lot of character development. I don't feel like I really *know* the characters or their motivations yet, and I'm over 100 pages into the story. But Georgette's mysteries have been compared to Agatha Christie's, whom I love, so I hope and expect that I'll want to collect all of Heyer's mysteries, if not her other novels, by the end of the book.
Since I have not shared any shelter photos in a little while, I'll post a few of my new best friends.
Diesel, who looks like Rosie's twin brother.
Goomba, who with his siblings lost his person to cancer. He's thankfully in a foster home right now, getting all the extra love and attention he needs. Can you tell I have a thing for brown tabbies?
Popcorn, in the infirmary because she is recovering from spay surgery and attack by some wild animal. We have to return her to her owners, which grieves me so much. I love this little girl and wish I could take her myself!! I'm glad I have a photo to remember her.
I hope you have a great weekend, whatever your plans!
I am sorry to hear about your father but happy to hear about Rainy. I'm sure he'll do wonderfully under your care. I'll keep your father and Rainy in my thoughts.
Loved the shelter pictures :) what adorable friends! Excited to see how Daphne turns out!
Enjoy your books-- I've actually managed to do some reading myself this week and I feel like it's given me more energy! Books are amazing things.

I'm glad to hear that Rainy will be ok. She looks like she's lying on some discarded clothes - typical cat!
Sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope the new treatment works out for him.
Have fun painting and don't get too much in your hair (I always do).

Aww, I am a sucker for brown tabbies too like my Gilda!

I'm sorry to hear about your father, hopefully the treatments will work well for him.
I'm glad to hear about Rainy. I guess that makes her the new spokescat!

I'm sorry to hear about your dad! I hope things work out well with the new treatment.
The cats are adorable. I keep getting attached to this cat and that at the place where I volunteer. The latest one is a young adult who isn't well socialized.

So sorry to hear about your dad - I hope his new treatment gives good results! And very glad that Rainy just has IBD.

Thank you for being there for these kitties. As the adoptive mom of three Siamese, I am grateful when someone cares for fur babies.

I think "Popcorn" is my new favorite cat name. What a cutie!

I will for sure keep your Father in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully the new treatment will be what he needs - and won't be too hard on him.
I am so happy to hear that Rainy just has IBD - we know we can treat that for her. She is so sweet looking.
Glad to hear you are still working at the shelter...those cats are all beautiful.
Have a great week-end

Hoping that your dad's new treatment is successful and with minimal side effects.
It's good to hear that Rainy is feeling better on her meds. Again, you guys were meant for each other.
Daphne is looking very pretty - as are the pound kitties!

Sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope he responds well to the treatment! Lovely kitty photos. Popcorn looks a little like my Dulce (who very naughtily ate a little plastic string last night--the sort that come on book mailers--that you pull to open), so I am watching her very closely right now. I'm curious to hear what you think of the Heyer mystery--I've not yet read those. She wrote a few and some have an inspector and some don't. Some of the mysteries may be better than others, too. I'm reading a PD James, which is really good!

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope his new treatment works out well.
I glad Rainy doesn't have lymphoma. Plus she's very lucky to have you as an experienced IBD family.

I wish your dad well and I hope that things getter better for all of you soon.

I'll be praying for your dad, especially that his treatment goes well and easily. Has he had any treatment with Rituxan?
I'm glad Rainy is feeling better. That prednisone is amazing stuff. Until you're up at 3 a.m. cleaning like a mad woman.

I will definitely keep your father in my thoughts. I hope the treatment goes well. And the news about Rainy is good -- you will have to deal with IBD of course, but that's so much better than the alternative. I'm curious to hear how you find the end of the Heyer novel!

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. I will surely keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

Lots of good thoughts for your dad. And at least you know how to help Rainy with her IBD. Hope the meds work and don't make her too crazy.

So sorry to hear about your dad. I'll keep him in my thoughts.
But that is very good news about Rainy! I know that IBD isn't the greatest, but you are more than prepared to treat that and it's not the worst case scenario. Glad to hear that she is feeling better!
