Pattern: Noni Three Sassy, Skinny Tube Baguettes
Needles: U.S. Size 11 24" circular, and dpns
Yarn: Cascade 220: 1 skein of green #7814, 1 skein of natural #8010, 2 skeins pink #9478, 2 skeins pale pink #9477
Misc: bamboo handles, fabric lining, plastic canvas, pink ribbon for straps, pink zipper
This was my first knitted bag and Noni pattern, and my first felting project. I learned a lot of new skills (sewn bind-off for one), which is always a good thing. But I drew the line at learning how to sew, and a wonderful new friend at an LYS did the lining and finish work for me. You can see her stamp in the lining, above.
And what about the Spider Chrysanthemum?
Pattern: Noni Spider Chrysanthemums & Daisies (sold separately)
Needles: U.S. Size 11 24" circular
Yarn: Cascade 220, 2 skeins pink #9478
The bag seems plain without it, but the flower may still be too big to attach at its current size. Opinions, please.
The Noni bag came out beautifully, its watermelon hues just right for summer.
I prefer the bag au naturel. While I like the chrysanthemum I think it would complement a larger and non-striped bag; there seems to be too much going on with the flower added.

It looks great! I'm so glad you have it back and just in time for summer. I like it plain (like mine), however I *also* like it with the flower! The size looks good, a smaller flower might look lost in all those stripes.

The chrysanthemum reminds me a little of that old horror movie where the sentient brains bust loose from the lab and crawl around attacking people. I'm thinking the adorable bag can stand without it just fine. I also think my puppy might achieve a perfect state of canine bliss in chewing the chrysanthemum's tentacles off one by one, should you decide it doesn't have a place in your home. Although, attached to a long handle, it might be awfully useful for herding dust-bunnies of cat hair out from under the furniture...

So sassy! It turned out wonderfully. The colors are so nice, with or without the flower!

I think the person looks awesome, and personally LOVE the flower. It really completes the bag in my opinion.

I love the bag! And I think the chrysanthemum is the *perfect* size. Don't trim it. Noni bags make a statement and yours does with the big flower.

So cute!

I like it either way. Could you put it on a safety pin to make it an optional bag accessory? If not, I'd suggest being governed by whether you crash into it when you're carrying the bag around.

I think the flower looks just right and in proportion to the bag. Great job!

I love the bag, with or without the flower. I like Sprite's idea of using a safety pin; then you could put it on or not, depending on your mood of the day.

I think the bag is gorgeous, and the flower is perfect!
I have the pattern, maybe I should knit it :)

The Noni bag looks great!! I would maybe cut down the flower somehow, or felt it more to make it smaller.

You are so clever to get someone else to do all that pesky finishing work! Myself, I prefer simple, straightforward bags sans accoutrements, so I would say no chrysanthemum. But I'm the kind of person who goes through life with a single plain black canvas shoulder bag for 10 years and never tires of it. So go with what YOU like!

Both flower and bag are exceedingly cute!

Count me in with the plain janes -- I like it best without the flower, though if I ran into someone carrying the bag with the flower, I'd still say "cool bag". And amazing work on the lining.

I love your bag and I really like the flower. When I first thought about it, without seen it attached I was not sure, but I think it looks perfect!! Well done, it could be your 100th felting project it is so good!!!

In my humble opinion, the flower is a must. It is a touch of flair that makes the bag! The whole project is just stunning!

Ooohhh, it came out wonderful!!! I bought that pattern a year ago (or is it two??) and you are inspiring me to actually get around to making it!! I like the flower, but to me it still seems a little big. I'd like it more if it were smaller. Of course, we all have different opinions, so I guess we really aren't helping!

The Noni bag turned out beautifully! I agree that the flower is just a wee bit big. But better too big than not there at all. It adds a certain something!

I might be in the minority here, but I like it better with the flower. Or at least A flower--maybe not that particular flower :) It doesn't look very flower-like to me.
The bag without the trim looks too bare to me.
You could attach a safety pin to the back of the flower and take it on and off as your mood dictates.

Wow! It really turned out great:) I need a sewing friend like yours.

I think the size of the flower is perfect for the size of your bag.
Posted by: madalyn | May 14, 2008 at 03:04 PM
I would safety pin (or use a snap) to attach the flower - to make it "smaller" you could take the long tentacles and curve them up and sew them to the center of the flower... making "loops"... hmmmm....

I'm SO proud of you, Debby! It turned out just beautifully. When I attached my flower, I tacked it in place in several places after twisting and curving the tentacles to get them where I wanted them and to give it that random, yet restrained look that I wanted. I did alot of fussing to get it to look just right. In many spots, I ran the needle and thread through the center of the tube so that it would pull up, then tacked it in place.

Hmmm...I think I'd probably go without the flower. I really like it, but I seem to tend towards the simpler look, myself.
Either way, though, it is a winner. Nice job!!!

It's adorable and perfect for Summer (and you know my thing or purses!). The flower is cute, and if you put it on a pin it becomes an optional accessory...

Your bag and flower look fabulous!

I like the bag without the chrysanthemum - the bag isn't plain at all! It's fabulous. The flower just makes me go "huh?"

Your bag turned out beautiful! I also love the flower.

I think the bag looks awesome with or without the flower. I think the flower is the right size, at least it looks the same as the bag on the pattern picture.
