Last Saturday, to start off birthday week, Chris took me to the Rhode Island Flower Show. For those of us in New England, spring's flowers aren't going to make an appearance for quite a while yet, so this was a chance to taste the season early.
Delphiniums in full bloom, by a waterfall. We both forgot the camera, so please excuse the phone photos.
A bit of the tropics, by the food court.
A French-New England potager, with a Rhode Island Red rooster holding court above the central pillar. The garden in the foreground contains various kinds of lettuce, with some sort of beet greens in the central urn. Behind the rooster, there was a hatchery for chicks!
A Scottish-themed garden, with a moongate. Moongates remind me of Bermuda. So romantic!
Tuscany comes to New England, with this sweet cottage and Mediterranean garden. Unfortunately you can't see the herb gardens in this photo, or the boxwood borders.
I love the grape arbor, and the sundial.
A contemporary English style border garden, with a spot for tea. This is the garden I would love to have someday, if I ever figure out the Deer Problem.
In addition to the above, there was a woodland garden, a Dutch bulb garden, a Lithuanian garden, a European garden that looked like a park, Japanese gardens, and a Native American garden complete with a towering teepee! Behind these display gardens, vendors of all kinds sold bulbs, garden tools, and lots of other non-garden things.
When we left the show, we drove to one of my favorite yarn shops, and I found yarn for Daphne:
Seven skeins of RYC Cashcotton in white. Rosie wants me to make her a wrap too.
Unfortunately, the other souvenir I took home that day was the nastiest, most horrid stomach flu I have ever had in my life. I spent the rest of birthday week in bed, only beginning to feel human yesterday, in time for my actual birthday. Chris took me out for dinner last night, the first real food I've eaten all week.
I'm sorry for not responding to emails and comments on my previous post yet. I hope to catch up soon, but please know I haven't forgotten you. Have a great weekend, and stay well!!!!
