Last Saturday, to start off birthday week, Chris took me to the Rhode Island Flower Show. For those of us in New England, spring's flowers aren't going to make an appearance for quite a while yet, so this was a chance to taste the season early.
Delphiniums in full bloom, by a waterfall. We both forgot the camera, so please excuse the phone photos.
A bit of the tropics, by the food court.
A French-New England potager, with a Rhode Island Red rooster holding court above the central pillar. The garden in the foreground contains various kinds of lettuce, with some sort of beet greens in the central urn. Behind the rooster, there was a hatchery for chicks!
A Scottish-themed garden, with a moongate. Moongates remind me of Bermuda. So romantic!
Tuscany comes to New England, with this sweet cottage and Mediterranean garden. Unfortunately you can't see the herb gardens in this photo, or the boxwood borders.
I love the grape arbor, and the sundial.
A contemporary English style border garden, with a spot for tea. This is the garden I would love to have someday, if I ever figure out the Deer Problem.
In addition to the above, there was a woodland garden, a Dutch bulb garden, a Lithuanian garden, a European garden that looked like a park, Japanese gardens, and a Native American garden complete with a towering teepee! Behind these display gardens, vendors of all kinds sold bulbs, garden tools, and lots of other non-garden things.
When we left the show, we drove to one of my favorite yarn shops, and I found yarn for Daphne:
Seven skeins of RYC Cashcotton in white. Rosie wants me to make her a wrap too.
Unfortunately, the other souvenir I took home that day was the nastiest, most horrid stomach flu I have ever had in my life. I spent the rest of birthday week in bed, only beginning to feel human yesterday, in time for my actual birthday. Chris took me out for dinner last night, the first real food I've eaten all week.
I'm sorry for not responding to emails and comments on my previous post yet. I hope to catch up soon, but please know I haven't forgotten you. Have a great weekend, and stay well!!!!
Debby,
I hope you feel better in time to spend the afternoon outside with me tomorrow. I will be at Bethel tomorrow (provided we don't cancel it due to snow) for the whole day. I felt guilty; what can I say?

Glad that you felt well enough in time for your birthday! Happy belated birthday!

Sorry to hear you've been sick! I hope you get completely better soon.
I think a wrap in white would match Rosie's bib and mittens very nicely!

Also, happy birthday!

The Flower Show looks like it was a good outing! And yarn afterwards - not a bad deal.
If nothing else, I'm sure Rosie will gladly share your wrap with you. ;-)
Happy Birthday, one day late! Hope you'll feel better soon.

Oh, I'm glad you have recovered from the stomach bug. Knock on wood I've managed to dodge it, as it has been plowing its course through the schools I work at.
The flower show does look like a breath of fresh air and promise. I haven't been for years.

What a shame! Happy Birthday wishes, and hopefully a pleasant weekend.

Happy birthday! I'm glad you're doing better. Thanks for the pictures -- I need them now especially, given that we've got a major snow storm on the way. It feels like spring will never arrive! (Of course, it's only March 1st, I'm asking for a bit much ...)

What a nice taste of Spring, especially considering the snow today. Glad you were feeling better in time for birthday celebrations!

Happy belated birthday! I had a horrible stomach flu right before my birthday one year, too, and the timing just enhanced the suffering.
I love that there was a waterfall at the flower show.

Happy Birthday! I'm glad you were feeling well enough to go out on your actual birthday.
Flower shows are so nice this time of year, when you need to see some green and flowers.

I'm so sorry you had the flu, but am delighted to hear you're feeling better.
And happy belated birthday! I hope the upcoming year is a fantastic one!

I didn't even think about using a cotton yarn... I just pulled from my stash, which is still very wintery... I'm still learning this whole knitting thing haha.
I'm glad you mentioned that, though! Next spring project-cotton! This scarf... will just be for the chillier spring days, i guess :)
10 inches of snow!? My goodness!! Sounds like you'll have plenty of time for that cardigan... but you never know! If your knitting luck is anything like mine, you might finish it right in time for the warmest day of the year!

Oh, I'm so sorry you had to get sick during your birthday week. But I'm happy you were able to recover in time for a nice b-day dinner!
Those pictures from the flower show are wonderful! I used to go to the one in Boston with my mom every year, but now she is in Florida in March and it wouldn't be as much fun without her. Thanks so much for sharing your show. It brought back some nice memories!
