Mystic River Yarns Meetup

Mystic_river_yarns_002

On Saturday, seven of us met at Mystic River Yarns for knitting, shopping, and chatting. Valerie, Karen, and Cindy are in the photo above.

Another photo of Karen, Debbie, and the back of Valerie.

Missing were Rachel and Kimberly -- we hope you both can join us next time. It's so nice to see everyone in person, as well as their knitting projects. Kristen, Karen, and Debbie were working on socks. Sarah, Valerie, and I think Cindy, were working on sweaters, and I had my pink mohair mittens.

I'm terrible when it comes to shopping at knitting events. By now, I'm sure Kristen has labeled me hopeless. I bought only 2 skeins of yarn at the Farmhouse Yarns sale when she invited me to go with her during the summer. I didn't purchase anything at Rhinebeck (I'll pause for a moment while you let the unbelievability of that sink in; I still don't believe it either), and then on Saturday I also went home empty-handed. If I don't go to an event with particular things in mind, I get overwhelmed with the choices. Everything or nothing speaks to me. I also want to knit more of what I have at home right now: patterns and yarn for two or three sweaters, a shrug, a felted purse, and then all of the skeins of one and two that need to be assigned. Maybe by the next meetup I'll do better?? What do you do -- do you set out to look for something on your mental list, or only purchase something on sale, or only look for patterns, or whatever speaks to you that day?

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and if you work outside your home, that the shock of going back was not too much. It's that time of year at my work where it's almost too busy to breathe, so I apologize if you have not heard from me. Thank goodness for car knitting and portable projects!

Coming Up Rosie

I like to think that every time another pet is rescued and adopted, a bell rings in heaven and there is much rejoicing.

Rosie_rainy_008

One must have rung Sunday night, when Rosie came home to live with us. She had been dumped off with her kittens at the shelter by a previous owner at the end of September. The kittens have all been adopted, and now it's time for her, only a year old, to be a kitten herself.

Rosie_rainy_010

She's still getting over a cold, so we have to keep her separated from Rainy and Timmy. Hopefully we can let her out of her room this weekend. She's anxious to explore her new house!

Ah, the stripes. I miss those.

"Hi Everyone!! I'm finally home!! YAY!!"

If you would like to join us on Saturday morning, 10-12ish,  at Mystic River Yarns in Mystic CT for the knitting meet-up, please do! Please RSVP to me at adamsdebra AT sbcglobal DOT net or to Kristen at Audioknits. We would like to make sure we have enough space for everyone -- the shop is on the small side.

Rainy in the napkin basket!

We wish you all a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving with your loved ones, furry and otherwise.

Casting On and On

It's been a casting on kind of week.

First, the Caroline sweater with the Louet Yarn. In the photo you can hopefully see the "holes" that form the zig zag design.

Second, the pink mohair mittens I've had listed in the "Dreaming About" column (left side of blog) forever. The cuff seems a bit long, but maybe the designer intended it to be worn folded? I don't have a photo with the pattern so I'm guessing.

Third, a small and simple Christmas knit I can't show yet, because the recipient may read my blog. All three of these can be car knitting and are definitely TV knitting. I'm still working on the camisole too, but I haven't come up with a re-design of the top that I like yet.

Our new kitty Rainy has made herself right at home. Tim has sequestered himself in our bedroom in protest. I know he'll come out eventually, but I feel sorry for him. And someone else might be moving in this weekend...

It's a Rainy Day

Rainy_001

My name is Rainy. I was adopted from Forgotten Felines on Tuesday night. I'm about 6 years old, and a small girl, due a little bit to being hyperthyroid. Now that I'm on medication, I'm doing much better.  The shelter person who rescued me gave me my name because I was found on a rainy night.

My new Persons came to the shelter looking for a gray striped kitty like their Charlie, that was talkative and affectionate. I'm not gray striped, but I am very talkative and affectionate, so I went up and introduced myself to them. What did I have to lose? When they left the shelter, they couldn't stop thinking about me [she is one of the sweetest girl cats you would ever want to meet!], so they made arrangements for me, and now I have this great new place to live. Which just goes to show you that sometimes if you take a risk, you just might get what you want.

One of the many nice things about a new home is that my female person bought special things just for me. I don't have to share them like I did in the shelter. Want to see what she got me?

I think she is happy that she has a girl kitty, don't you?

Tim ought to be in Pictures

Elizabeth and I participated in a movie themed swap. She sent me the most wonderful box, all wrapped in black and gold, with gold stars!

Inside, Elizabeth treated me to lovely lace yarn, silk yarn (which I have never had before), and some terrific celebrity-themed knitting books. Also a copy of Lace Style which I've been wanting to get!

Tim is looking forward to movie time with Audrey, and I've already been enjoying the tea and jelly bellies! Thank you so much!!!

The package was so fun to open, and really cheered me up. As did the arrival of the Louet Yarn for Caroline:

Mittens are done and off to Lynne for the Mittens for Children collection:
